Jezrel Sabaduquia (Jez)
New York, NY but born in the Philippine Islands!
Where do you go to college & what are you studying?
Syracuse University, majoring in Information Management and Technology with concentrations in Database Management and Web Design, minors in History and Food Studies. I actually switched my major three times. I was marketing and psychology, PR, and then IT. I've always loved communications but wanted to complement that with technical skills like programming and coding.
Team you’re working on here at Ogilvy?
Media Influence. A lot of the things we do in the team revolve around corporate and internal communications. I’m usually tasked to research influencers and experts in a specific field who could speak at a corporate event for our client. In addition, my biggest client is Ogilvy. I perform a weekly news review where I collect “Good News to Share” from the hundreds of Ogilvy offices around the globe, for example, a new Regional Managing Director in Ghana or Bailey, a one-year old Cocker Spaniel at the London Office who was named Chief Relaxation Officer.
How would you describe your morning routine?
Long and peaceful walk from 6th and 42nd to the Chocolate Factory with my Venti Strawberry Acai Refresher or my Grande Decaf Iced Cafe Americano with three pumps of toffee nut syrup and two pumps of caramel from Starbucks. Of course, jamming to my summer playlist which consists of Ed Sheeran's Castle on the Hill and Despacito, both original and remix.
What’s your staple work outfit?
I wear khakis, nice sneakers, and a long-sleeve shirt most days. Usually something more colorful and comfortable on Fridays.
Where do you go for lunch?
To the rooftop with my intern squad!
What’s your favorite spot in the office?
Anywhere with a view of the Hudson. Maybe the 7th floor lounge, it's so swanky and those seats actually have good lumbar support for my bad back. I'd say the rooftop too but only when it's below 80 degrees.
When you’re not in the office, what do you like to do around NYC?
Hangout at Gantry Park in Queens, which is pretty much the best park in the city. It has great views of Manhattan, great little coffee shops and restaurants nearby, and lots of dogs!!! This is only applicable when it's less than 80 degrees. Other than that, I am a big fan of watching the same great movies again and again. I’ve seen Wonder Woman five times and Spider-Man: Homecoming four times, probably going to see it five more times. I’m pretty much very obsessed with Tom Holland, so if I ever know that he’s somewhere in New York, that’s where I’ll be.
How did you hear about Ogilvy & this internship?
I actually visited Ogilvy as a sophomore during Spring Break. Syracuse organizes networking events around the city, and it was an event called Communications Trek where we visited several companies in the communications field and one of places we visited was Ogilvy. I got to meet Moses there and Jamilé, who's a Social Strategist here and a Phi Sigma Pi alum! (A gender-inclusive fraternity I'm currently part of at Syracuse). So long story short, my school had a post about the Ogilvy internship on our internal recruitment website and since I fell in love with Ogilvy during my visit, it was a no brainer.
What do you think is special about this Ogilvy internship?
Honestly, it's the people: both interns and full-time staff. Being surrounded by friendly and intelligent people all day is wonderful. I love how we're treated as actual employees with real projects but also as college students, where we have our weekly lunch and learns, mentors, social events, and more. It's the best of both worlds. It's like a trial version of being an adult.
What do you wish you knew about Ogilvy before you started your internship here?
This place is nowhere close to the subway. But I am getting those 10,000 steps a day, so it's okay. Unless it is over 80 degrees. Like I said, I cannot thrive in that environment.
What are you looking forward to in your senior year of college?
I am studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark where it probably won’t be 80 degrees most of the time, so that will be a highlight!
