College & what are you studying?
Elon University; Strategic Communications & Marketing
Team you’re working on here at Ogilvy?
I am on Account Management for the Citizens Bank team here at Ogilvy. We liaison with the clients to make sure that all campaign elements are going smoothly. I help with whatever tasks are needed that day; anything from running a competitive analysis of the banking industry to adjusting schedules. I went to Rhode Island on a photoshoot with Ogilvy & Citizens Bank and have since spent a lot of my time helping organize the images from the shoot and helping make selects to pass on to the clients.
How would you describe your morning routine?
While I’m getting ready in the morning, I listen to NPR’s “Up First” and drink coffee #1 of the day. I hop on the E train, get off at 50th & 8th and then walk to the office by 9am. I usually run out of time to eat breakfast at home, so as soon as I get to the office, I make oatmeal in the floor kitchen. I check my schedule for the day, respond to emails and do a quick scan through NYTimes & Ad Age.
What’s your staple work outfit?
My go to office outfit is a summery dress with sandals.
Where do you go for lunch?
If I have my act together, I’ll have packed lunch at home. But…on days where I’m less organized or am looking for something more exciting than a turkey sandwich, I check out the Ogilvy Café or Gotham Market.
What’s your favorite spot in the office?
My favorite spots in the office are the rooftop and the common space on my floor. The common space has comfy chairs and a great view of the river, plus it’s right by the kitchen, convenient for my mid-afternoon hot chocolate.
When you’re not in the office, what do you like to do around NYC?
When I’m not in the office, I love to explore the different neighborhoods and find new restaurants and outdoor spaces. Since NYC is the musical theater capital of the world and I’m a huge theater nerd, I’m always scoping out ways to get cheap tickets to musicals, improv or comedy shows.
How did you hear about Ogilvy & this internship?
I knew about Ogilvy and what a key player it was in the advertising industry from various college classes and professors. When I decided that I wanted to intern in NYC for the summer, I checked to see if Ogilvy had a program and a few months later, here I am!
What do you think is special about this Ogilvy internship?
I think this internship is unique because it is fully immersive. As an intern, I’m treated as another member of the account team. This means that I learn tons about the industry every day and gain a hands-on understanding of Citizens Bank and the work that Ogilvy is doing for them. Additionally, the Lunch & Learn series gives us a chance to learn about various agency departments and to ask questions of industry experts. Lastly, with the intern project, we got to work within an intern team to create an entire campaign that we presented to actual clients at the end. Having these challenging facets of the internship has given us a plethora of knowledge to draw from in the future.
What do you wish you knew about Ogilvy before you started your internship here?
I wish I knew how casual the work environment was so I didn’t buy so many business professional clothes!
What are you looking forward to in your senior year of college?
Next year I’m looking forward to fully appreciating my last year of college and hanging out with all the wonderful people at Elon! I am looking forward to my last semester as President of my a cappella group, Vital Signs, and all of our upcoming performances. I am also looking forward to continuing my work as a university tour guide and meeting the prospective families and students that come to campus. Lastly, I am going to Vietnam for a month-long study program in January, which I am thrilled about!
