Bay Area, California
What college do you attend and what are you studying?
I go to the George Washington University, in Washington, DC! I'm majoring in Marketing, and minoring in Psychology.
Team you’re working on here at Ogilvy?
I was so excited when I learned I would be working in Account Management for IKEA! I work on a variety of projects, such as helping run the IKEA Newsletter, writing and researching industry reports, and editing and curating decks.
How would you describe your morning routine?
I wake up around 6:45/7am, get ready and go get breakfast. I take the subway into work, and then have my morning 15-minute walk into the office. Once I'm here, usually right before 9am, I go straight to the hot chocolate/coffee machine.
What’s your staple work outfit?
Dark jeans, a nice top and black flats. Of course, paired with some jewelry and red lipstick!
Where do you go for lunch?
I either bring lunch or go to the salad bar in the Ogilvy café!
What’s your favorite spot in the office?
The most scenic spot in the office is the rooftop, but my favorite spot is the 9th Floor Intelligence Lab. There's something about the calming view and books that help me to unplug and get work done.
When you’re not in the office, what do you like to do around NYC?
Being from the Bay Area, I love to take advantage of everything NYC has to offer! I went to see Stephen Colbert film "The Late Show," ran into Sarah Jessica Parker in Washington Square Park, and hit up all the fun brunch and coffee spots in the Greenwich/East Village Area. I also found the best vegan spot- By Chloe, where the sweet potato fries are everything and more.
How did you hear about Ogilvy and this internship?
At GW, I competed in the National Student Advertising Competition which really helped me learn more about how an Ad Agency is run and what work goes into creating a campaign. Through our class and the competition, I met many wonderful GW alumni who are now in the advertising industry and told me about Ogilvy. I took the plunge and applied, and can confidently say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
What do you think is special about this Ogilvy internship?
I love that this internship is set up in a way that we were able to connect and work with other interns on the summer-long intern project. My team and I worked together to create a full-fledged campaign that we pitched to company and client executives. We won the pitch- one of the highlights of this internship- and got a feel of what it is like to see our work in action.
What do you wish you knew about Ogilvy before you started your internship here?
It's okay to not know exactly what function of Advertising you want to go into, as the point of the internship is to help you figure it out. Use the other interns as a support system and do your best to absorb as much as you can.
What are you looking forward to in your senior year of college?
I love NYC, but I am really looking forward to being back in the District to reconnect with everyone and kick off senior year! I will be an RA again (3rd year in a row!), so I'm looking forward to meeting new residents and finding fun restaurants and brunch spots.
