What college do you attend and what are you studying?
I got to Penn State University, my major is Public Relations, and I’m double minoring in Digital Media Analytics and International Studies.
Team you’re working on here at Ogilvy?
I’m interning on the Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) PR team. Working on this team I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with at a little bit of everything. I do a lot of research, make social calendars for different events, media monitor, make agendas for the week, track activity that we’ve done for the clients, participate in brainstorms and much more.
How would you describe your morning routine?
Since I commute into the city, I wake up pretty early to get to work on time. My alarm goes off at 5:40 am every day, I get ready, eat breakfast, and catch the 6:50am bus. I usually get into the office about a half hour early, so I use this time to read my emails and get organized for the day.
What’s your staple work outfit?
I wear a summer dress and a blazer almost every day.
Where do you go for lunch?
If I don’t bring lunch from home, I’ll run downstairs and grab something quick from the salad or sushi bar.
What’s your favorite spot in the office?
My favorite spot is the 10th floor lobby, even though I’m only there for the occasional meeting. I love the red wallpaper, big frames and view of the city from the window.
When you’re not in the office, what do you like to do around NYC?
My favorite part about New York is that there is always something going on. If I’m not in the office, chances are I am trying to make the most of my time here by exploring the different areas and activities that NYC has to offer.
How did you hear about Ogilvy & this internship?
I was at a graduation party two years ago when I struck up a conversation with an Ogilvy employee. I could tell that she really loved her job, and ever since then I noticed the company all over. When my teachers at school used Ogilvy’s campaigns as examples to learn from, I knew that I wanted to look into the internship program.
What do you think is special about this Ogilvy internship?
Everything! The culture of Ogilvy is one of a kind, everyone that you meet wants to help you succeed. The internship allows you to understand what it is like to be a fully integrated member of a team, where you get to handle your own responsibilities and assignments. I also think that the lunch and learns add a lot to the program. Lunch and learns are when people from different positions come talk to the interns about what their job is like. We’ve heard from many people including those in creative, production, strategy and even the Worldwide Chairman & CEO.
What do you wish you knew about Ogilvy before you started your internship here?
I wish I knew a little more about the culture of the office. Before I started I pictured everyone to be very serious dressed in white collared shirts and black pants. When I got to the office, I was surprised how lively the atmosphere was - everyone that I met had something entertaining to say.
What are you looking forward to in your senior year of college?
It’s crazy to think that I am going into my last year of college. I know that it is going to be an extremely bittersweet year knowing that it is a year of “lasts.” I’m looking forward to taking everything in and making the most of the moment.
